Christina Swartz

Christina Swartz has been an independent consultant and coach for over eleven years, primarily helping leaders and leadership teams increase their personal and organizational effectiveness.

As a leadership coach, Christina has coached in a wide variety of organizations in the Federal and local government sectors, the non-profit sector and for-profit companies.  In addition to coaching leaders in medium and large organizations either individually or in cohort leadership programs, she has significant experience coaching small business owners and independent professionals.  With those clients, her leadership coaching work also includes a great deal of work on issues related to ownership/leadership of micro-enterprises.  Her personal experience as a business owner having to negotiate leases and other contracts, hire employees, design advertising, recruit customers, and make a profit has prepared her well to work with other business owners.

Christina approaches coaching from the perspective that the client is the expert on themselves and that they possess all the abilities, strengths and personal resources to achieve their goals.  As the coach, Christina supports her clients in tapping into these resources so that they have greater access to them.  She does this through a collaborative partnership that involves powerful questions, direct communication and honesty.  These techniques are designed to uncover internal wisdom and shed light on new perspectives and possibilities and to increase self-awareness around limiting beliefs, behaviors and blind spots.  The coaching is centered on growth.  The desired outcome is for the new learning that occurs to be long lasting and transformational.  Examples of coaching goals include:  increasing leadership effectiveness, personal branding, executive presence, setting boundaries, dealing with overwhelm, time management, career transitions, increasing confidence and leadership capacity.  With her support, clients are able to take steps outside their comfort zone and move in the direction of their goals. 

Prior to becoming an independent consultant and coach, Christina had careers in education where she began as a teacher and later as the owner and director of a private school in Virginia.  Before that, she worked in the airline industry where she held many leadership roles such as the Department Head of Customer Service for a major airline. 

Christina is a graduate of the Georgetown University’s Leadership Coaching Certificate Program.  Her formal education includes a bachelor’s degree with Honors from the University of Mary Washington and graduate study at Old Dominion and Shenandoah Universities.
