Larry Beam is an ICF-certified executive leadership coach and registered professional engineer who draws from his experience in both these domains to partner with his clients to help develop themselves and transform their organizations. He works with leaders from a wide range of industries, including clients in Fortune 500 companies, Architecture, Engineering, Construction, IT, Boards, Non-Profits and Associations, Higher Education, and City and Federal governments.
As a coach, Larry works with both emerging and experienced leaders to help with new leadership roles, career development, difficult conversations, and improving organizational collaboration. With over 20 years in senior leadership positions in engineering firms, his coaching strengths include helping technical leaders improve their people skills such as communication, delegation and empathy, and helping leaders balance vision and strategy with tactics and operations. He is a proven leader in leadership development, leadership transition, project management, business development, career development, strategic planning, problem solving, and long-term client and employee relationship building.
As part of his commitment to leadership development, Larry created a leadership training program for technical professionals moving into leadership roles. The program is based on the acronym DESIGN, and was developed to introduce new leaders to the basics of leadership.

Larry has been a professional architectural engineering executive with extensive hands-on expertise, serving as President of a 45-person consulting engineering firm and Senior Vice President, Office Managing Director, and U.S. Eastern Region Director for WSP-USA, an international engineering firm. In these leadership roles, Larry placed a major emphasis on the professional and personal development of staff, resulting in exceptionally low turnover rates. He led business development efforts, and significantly expanded the client base and improved the project pipeline.
Larry has a Bachelor of Architectural Engineering from Penn State University. He earned his Executive Certificate in Leadership Coaching from the ICF-accredited Georgetown University Leadership Coaching Program, and is a member of the International Coaching Federation. He is an ICF-certified ACC (Associate Certified Coach). He is a Professional Engineer (PE) registered in four states and the District of Columbia. Deeply aware of the impact the built environment has on our world, he is a LEED AP (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design Accredited Professional). He is certified in Leadership Circle Profile 360, and EQi-2.0 & EQ 360 (Emotional Intelligence Assessments).
Larry has served on the Board of Trustees for the National Building Museum, and has held leadership positions in several community organizations. He received the Design Excellence Award from the Washington DC Design Leadership Council. He is currently an outside board member for SKA Consulting Engineers in Greensboro, NC, and on the Advisory Board for Shenandoah University’s Transformative Leadership Program.
