Megan Smith brings 20+ years of experience cultivating innovative, high-performing teams within complex contexts. As a Leadership Coach, Facilitator, and Organizational Consultant, she helps mission-driven organizations build the leadership capacity, team culture, and internal alignment they need to sustain their work and deepen their impact. She brings a person-centered, co-creative approach to every engagement – grounded in psychological safety, honest inquiry, and a commitment to making change stick.

Her style is warm, direct, and grounded. Megan meets leaders and teams where they are, asks the questions others hesitate to ask, and creates the conditions for the kind of honest conversation that leads to real movement. Her work is not just about clarity; it’s about operationalizing that clarity into structures, behaviors, and practices that hold.

As a leadership coach, Megan partners with leaders at all levels – executive, mid-level, and emerging – to surface blind spots, strengthen their leadership presence, and build the skills needed to lead with greater intention and impact. She draws on a range of frameworks and modalities to meet each client’s unique needs, helping them move from insight to action and from ambiguity to clarity. Her clients leave sessions with sharper focus, renewed confidence, and concrete next steps.

As an organizational consultant, Megan works alongside leadership teams, boards, and coalitions to strengthen alignment, navigate complex decisions, and translate vision into actionable strategy. She designs and facilitates retreats, workshops, and multi-session engagements that are as engaging as they are productive. Her facilitation draws on emergent change principles to help groups move through difficulty with honesty and care.

As a trainer and capacity builder, Megan designs and delivers learning experiences that build durable organizational capacity. Her current work includes helping organizations understand and address burnout as a structural and systems problem, drawing on the Maslach-Leiter model, for small nonprofits, coalitions, networks, and movements. She approaches training as a collaborative learning process that honors the expertise already in the room while introducing new frameworks, tools, and practices.

Previously, Megan served as a Director at the Aspen Institute and IREX, where she designed and delivered leadership development programming for more than 1,000 leaders across 100+ countries. That work – and the years she spent living and working in Mexico, Ireland, Brazil, Timor-Leste, and Cambodia – shaped a deeply cross-cultural understanding of how context, power, and place shape leadership. She is based in Washington, DC, and works with mission-driven clients locally and nationally.

Megan holds an MA in International Educational Development from Teachers College, Columbia University, and a BA in History from Rice University. She is a Certified Professional Coach (iPEC) and a member of the International Coaching Federation (ICF).
